Engaging, Enriching and Challenging

Student life at High Mowing is an exciting mixture of classroom learning and enriching experiences outside the classroom. Life flourishes in the dining room, in the dormitories, on the lawn, on the sports fields, and in the far-flung destinations of Projects Blocks and exchange schools abroad. The richness of High Mowing lies in the relations between people. These relations are nourished in myriad ways each day. People are real with each other, accepting of differences, and encouraging of growth. Healthy ways of living are modeled and encouraged. Delicious organic food is eaten and civic involvement is embraced.

“I didn't think I would be able to get involved with so many different groups and activities but everything seemed to come naturally out of the welcoming and inspiring atmosphere and attitude of everyone.”

High Mowing offers students many ways to be engaged, enriched, and challenged. The mixture of day and boarding students means everyone has a chance to meet and work with people from across the country and from many lands abroad, but also that they can get to know the local area and all that it has to offer.  School traditions such as Coffee House are sparked by student initiative and celebrate each person’s gifts.

“I noticed true friendships, not only between students, but between teachers and students as well. People at HMS are all so welcoming, accepting, and supportive, and everyone is enthusiastic and happy about being part of something
as positive as the High Mowing society.”
